Kansas. 2007. A barn door opens. The dust mixed with summer sunlight settles to reveal the first of my Red Truck passions... a very red, forward-facing 1987 Landcruiser FJ60. Built to be the perfect expedition vehicle - all mechanical - durable - predictable. The perfect companion for adventure.
A closer inspection reveals total mileage in the 30,000 neighborhood - a mere newborn in the life of a Cruiser! The owner recognizes at once my appreciation of this specimens global heritage and history. It rumbles to life with unexpected vigor announcing the new partnership between the two of us. "BIG REDD" comes home with me. There could be no other outcome.
Upon our return home, my wife and daughters greet us with fanfare - they know of the new chariot and are eager to see! As we prepare a remarkable dinner my wife introduces me to the second of my current Red Truck passions, served with a beautiful steak and the giggles of two little girls who knew of the unveiling. It too rumbled to life with vigor and has proven to be durable, predicatable, and now classic. It too has accompanied us on many expeditions, the perfect companion for adventure.
